GizmoRedNosePit Posted May 26, 2002 Posted May 26, 2002 Many people describe there dogs as couch potatos or hyper. My puppy is hyper beyond belife! We can pick up the laser light and she comes running from outside or wherever she is! She will chase this little red light like there is nothing else to do!My pitbull is the best thing that happened to me! She loves people, when we have a party I swear she thinks the house is her house and everyone is coming over to see her!! She loves to run from inside to outside, with her big floppy pitbull ears! She has ears so big for her face it looks like pluto ears!! Quote
Shannon_C Posted May 27, 2002 Posted May 27, 2002 I would say that all 3 of my dogs are friendly towards people and other animals:) The Bullmastiff (age 3 years)tends to get excited when we have visiters, but he is very layed back (that says it all for the breed) he sleeps more as he is getting older too. The Border Collie mix (age 6 years), is a crazy girl...she loves her ball too much, she can get hyper at times. The Westie (my little old man, age 13 years) for his age he is very playful and loves to play with Charlie tugging a rope pully! All in all they are very well behaved dogs, with the Bully and Collie both being intelligent. Puppies do see there home as there own, almost immediately that is why its up to the owner to sort there training out, socializing the pup....showing him whose boss etc. When Charlie (bullmastiff) first came home at 9 weeks, he was really quite and he didnt want to play with his toys....he just ate his food, went to toilet in the garden, then had his nap...he wasnt a playful puppy....he didnt chew things either, but as he was maturing he started to take an interest in things more. Now i think if someone else had him (lets just say) they didnt know anything about the breed, then i think Charlie probably would have been a little hyper, because unless a thorough research is done before choosing the Bullmastiff, then there could be a big problem! (The breed like many others, are not always suited to some especially not first time dog owners). Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted May 27, 2002 Posted May 27, 2002 My beagle (fred) is hyper but tires very easily because he is still a pup. My border collie/siberian husky is (4 years) is very hyper and loves toys but knows when to settle down. :D He had a very bad habit of chasing cars (like most border collies) and has gotten hit 4 times :( (badly) and has surived! He is my lucky boy! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 :D We have a furry herd of 11 dogs, 9 rescues in 3 years 3 malemutes (1 is blind) very energetic human oriented if you don't pet them they cry almost like a kid 2 sammies, very stubborn but loyal 1 husky she was badly abused, if not catered to hides in her dog house like a recluse, hence her name Princess 1 deaf beagle one track mind very forgiving 1 Schipperke independent you submit on her terms almost the cat of the herd 2 keeshonds very excellent with kids and family push in for attention 1 mini eskimo very hyper, good with adults but wary around children We work with each separately, some don't get along with others. It takes some effort but they are well worth it, invest the time and the return is tremendous  Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 1, 2002 Posted June 1, 2002 What a great question, Gizmo! Our shar pei/lab is 4 years old, adopted by us at 2 and is a bit aloof, but a big lover when he decides to trust you. He has numerous neurotic tendencies, including a huge fear of our hard wood floors and an almost wussy cleanliness fetish! His favorite evening place is laying all the way down my body on the couch, he spoons like no dog i have ever seen! I adore him, and would trust him to guard me forever. Our one year old rescue is a spaz-ball. She's shar pei/something and she is a LOVER. Can't wait to get a face close enough to lick, likes to mouth on your arm (no biting, she just holds onto you) and jumps like a gazelle. It is a bummer that nearly all agility championships are purebred only, because I think she could do a course like a fiend! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 1, 2002 Posted June 1, 2002 We just got an australian shepherd, and I had read as to how hyper they are. This almost stopped me on the breed. Hazel is not a truely hyper dog (yet?) but she is only three months old. I also think that our last dog who was a pure bred mut was just a very hyper dog, I also suspect that part of her mix was aussie. I would first describe Hazel as intelligent!!!! I was never much of a dog person until Koko, our last dog, who taught me dogs could be smart. (we were just really unfortunate growing up to find all the dumb dogs...) Hazel is even more intellegent then Koko, by the time she was 10 weeks she knew basic obedience and a few simple tricks like shake and roll over. Just recently we went for a walk down to the bay which is 5 min away and I stopped to talk to a friend and she got loose, after about 15 min I decided to see if maybe she went home, shure enough she was waiting for me on the front porch, I will never underestimate her again! I would then describe her as fearless of anything she feels threatens her people, like vacume cleaners.... and sprinklers.... and hoses....and well you get the point. Neither my husband nor I have ever had a dog that liked the water so much. I even bought her a swimming pool which she graciously shares with my 3 and 4 year old boys (never mind it was my 5 year olds b- day presant!) Playing in the sprayer trying to catch the water is her favorite past time. I would also like to add that she is very cuddly and loving, she loves children but is reserved with unknown adults until I tell her it's ok. (I am working on this as I don't want her to be fearful) I wouldn't recomend an aussie to anyone, but to someone who has the time (like all day) they are a great dog!!! I would never go with anything else..... except maybe a pure bred mutt. Quote
GizmoRedNosePit Posted June 8, 2002 Author Posted June 8, 2002 Well thanks! I thought of it and wanted to know!! Sasha Gizmo is the same way...when she goes to the dog park and trys to get a dog to play she sticks her butt in the air starts bark tail waggin and she decides to run! So she sticks her tail in between her legs and run...fast sofast some dogs cant keep up with her!! (She got it from her "childhood friend" witch is an American Eskimo! :D :P :D Quote
Bronxie Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 Elle is hyper. Especially when she's playing with my cat Shadow. She is likes to nap a lot and follows me everywhere! If I'm at the computer she's sleeping on my feet. If I'm on my bed she's there with me. She loves kids and loves the attention she gets from other people. She's just spoiled rotten. Quote
