Guest Anonymous Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Hey I have a question for pit owners or pit lovers out there. These people moved in next door to my grandmas and they have the most adorable little pit puppy. Well.. they say it is purebred pit and it looks purebred. But it has the markings of a Boston Terrier. Do pits come in these colors?? They said that the parents were at the pound when they got him. And they looked purebred. I was just curious. I'm going to add one more thing. I used to be one of those people who wanted all pits dead..sorry.. But if anybody out there is like that and you are reading this PLEASE get to know the breed!! They are the coolest breed!! Someday I'm going to get a pit. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Yes, pitbulls come in black and white...I can't think of a color or pattern they don't seem to come in. I've never seen a black AND blue mastiff, but I have seen black mastiffs and blue mastiffs. I've only seen fawn old english mastiffs, but there are many, many kinds of mastiffs that come in all colors. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Like a previous post- APBTs come in all colors and all color patterns. It is however impossible to tell if your neighbors dog even is a pit (and if it is its probably not full-blooded)if it is not registered. There are several breeds mistaken for pits. Just because the parents looked like pits doesnt mean they were. Quote
Shannon_C Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Hi Mei Mei. Yes your right, Mastiffs do only come in shades of fawn and brindle....obviously these dogs are some sort of crossbreed. What site did you see these dogs on ? Shannon Bullmastiff Owner and Lover of the breed! Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 Would that be black brindle and blue brindle Mastiffs or would that be black or blue Neopolitan Mastiffs? Neos do come in that color. Mastiffs when brindled can come very dark brindle (nearly black) or very light stripes when the black is diluted into blue (ie gray) brindling. Guest Anonymous Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 "sashagirl" napisaĆ(a):[quote name='K']If a Staff comes in Rottie colours it is very frowned upon indeed as the breeders think that if not kept in check this colorisation would eventually take over......K. Black and tan is often a double recessive color in dogs ie its a recessive that both parents pass along for the color and the pup that gets them both will carry no other color genes (though dilutions of the color in the pattern can occur giving you blue and tan. black and silver etc) its actually both a pattern and a color so its two sets of genes that produce it (at least) in some breeds you get complications such as black masks that adds to the presenting color in the adult dog Many breeds have B&T as a disqualifying color as it seems to show an influence from another breed in the line. I know one breeder of a particular breed went back 10 generations on one side and 9 on the other to find the dogs that send the B&T color down the line to her litter! Quote
Shannon_C Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 To K. I know that the Mastiff come in dark brindle like the one post said, with shades of red and fawn like stripes, same as the Bullmastiff but as for pure black in the Mastiff breed...its not a known colour. Neopolitan Mastiffs come in shades of black and blue colours. This breeder could be refering to that breed....i also know that many people who breed Mastiffs, dont say exactly say what the name is (Whether it be a Tibetan Mastiff or Neopolitan Mastiff) which is so confusing  Quote
Aroura Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 Chances are, if he's selling them as purebreds they have papers. Theres a possibility that they are just a very dark brindle, many puppys appear darker than they grow up to be. Also, not all purebred dogs bred conform to the breed standard, like white boxers or german sheperds. Not accepeted, but they do exist. There are a number of possibilitys. Quote
GizmoRedNosePit Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 I am very happy to hear beagle say that he is going to get a pitbull and that people shouldn't judge pitbulls! :D :D :D Quote
