My name is Kelly Kuchera and I am a journalism and media major at Mercy College in NY. I'm doing an article on my Cocker Spaniel, who had Chronic Bowel Disease as a puppy. His illness was the result of being inbred. I was wodering if you have any statictics on how many dogs this disease affects. If not, do you know where I could find the information?

Thank you,
Kelly K.

A good journalist does not start out with having a conclusion before they do the research on the subject. Try http://www.dogpile.com and look up chronic bowel disease dog for more information on this disorder.
BTW I'd say your pup had a problem not from 'being inbred' but from being bred by an irresponsible breeder who did not know how to select for healthy parent dogs before producing a litter of genetically healthy pups.
Inbreeding can produce fabulous and healthy animals and is used in most livestock and crop breeding quite sucessfully by people who know what they are doing. =The breeding of closely related animals without checking for and eliminating animals with likely health defects through complete health testing and pedigree research is not responsible breeding of any kind its ignorance.

I don't think I can help you with your study, But... my dog may have this but I know for sure she is not innerbread. I just posted a note about her. It is listed under digestive problems. If this sounds like the same symptoms, please contact me. Thanks and Good luck! :fadein:
