Guest Anonymous Posted May 8, 2002 Posted May 8, 2002 I live in an apartment complex that does not have a weight limit on pets. Their ONLY restriction is Pit Bulls. They have no problem with the fact that there are quite a few Rotts who are at least 70 pounds. Plus some Dobermans, German Shepards. But they have a problem with my 40 pound pit bull. Is there anything I can do. Is this discrimination or do they have the right? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 8, 2002 Posted May 8, 2002 I don't know but it is sad if your dog is well-behaved. Do you think talking to the management might help? You might talk to the city and see if they have any bree-specific legistlation. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 Unfortunatly they do have the right to tell you what kind of breed you can and cannot have on their property- regardless of the temperment. You might be able to tell a little fib and say your pup is a staffordshire terrier (which pit owners HATE to do) instead of a pit. Insurance companies have a much higher rate for pit bull owners than any other breed. In my state we have to get insurance through the state, not through indepent insurrance companies. Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 sorry this is and also ....why is it so bad to tell a little lie and say they are Staffordhire Bull Terriers? if I owned a pure bred pit in the country I live in I would have to lie all the time or it would be taken and destroyed...please count your blessings that you are allowed to own such wonderfull creatures......P.S. I have a friend who has hers down on paper as a American Stafford (AmStaff) would that be more convincing??.......K. Quote

Im sorry but I still think you are full of it saying you can tell a staff from a pit. Why dont you tell us what the differences are? Quote

Do you realize the only difference between staffs and pits are that the bloodlines were seperated years ago for show- Am Staff and fighting- APBT. There are VERY few AM Staffs with no APBT blood in it as well as APBTs with Am Staff blood. What is it you look for to tell the difference between the two? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 If I were you, I would try to move now....sounds like you are going to have too many dogs for the present situation. If that is not feasible, is there anyone who can take some of them for now? If none of the above will work, think I would just take a chance and tell the landlord that your boyfriend was mistaken as he does not know dogs well. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 10, 2002 Posted May 10, 2002 To Sashagirl from K (And a bit to ANON) yes I agree, look for your own place if you can do it soon and meanwhile tell the staff the new puppy is something else with a bit of luck they will be the same as the Anonymous on here who is disbelieving me and not know the difference either...I do not mean to anger anyone or have them attack me rudely I just think I have a "good eye"(is that the saying??) for my own favourite breed please no anger over this it is done now...and my english fails to be good when I am upset..........lots of best wishes to Sashagirl and her dogs....K Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 10, 2002 Posted May 10, 2002 Just had a thought...is the Anon who was rude to me wanting to get rid of me because I own Staffys and not a Pit? if my words are not good here I will go.....but I was talking with Sashagirl anyway....oh take no notice people I am rambling on because I do not like to be "had a go at"....had hopes that this was not what this board was about!..and I DID put LOL after my statement so as not to offend ((lots of laughs right??))........K. Guest Anonymous Posted May 10, 2002 Posted May 10, 2002 Go to the office person and tell her your boyfriend was showing off being macho and that your nice little dog is a boxer mix from the pound.... On 2002-05-08 08:46, Anonymous wrote: I live in an apartment complex that does not have a weight limit on pets. Guest Anonymous Posted May 10, 2002 Posted May 10, 2002 if you have not already backed up your bf on the apbt story, you can go to them and say he likes to tell people your dogs are the wrong breed as a status thing (and that they are really staffies)...makes your bf look bad, but might keep your dogs in the apartment. I have a apbt mix who I say is a "hound mix" because she has natural ears...no one is any the wiser or any more nervous of her...because she is "hound." (few people know enough about dogs to call you on your bluff!) Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 13, 2002 Posted May 13, 2002 I agree with going along with the "lie." The average person has a stereotypical idea of what a "pit" should look like, but there are many muttleys out there who could fit that description. I tell anyone who asks that mine is just a "mutt." Ethically speaking, I would rather tell a lie than be faced with having to ditch my dogs. I suppose it's the lesser of the two evils. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 I once had the same problem, and my dog is not even full pit. But while I was filling out the aplication for a lease I put sharperd/pit mix. The land lord refused to let the dog move in, until I let him meet the dog. Once he meet the dog he changed his statement, and we have had no further problems. I would suggest trying the other's advice first, but if all else fails try the truth. Sit down with the property manager and let them handle the dog, see if you can gain some simpathy. Quote
