Guest Anonymous Posted May 4, 2002 Posted May 4, 2002 Hi . Need some advice here. My dog injured his leg in early January playing fetch. He's been limping eversince. I took him to the vet about 8 weeks after initial injury. x-rays showed nothing with just a prescription to rest. 8 weeks later I took him back. the vet said to start giving him aspirin daily, recommended glucosamine doggy tablets, No stairs, No walks and to keep him calm..It actually seems to be getting worse. I called the vet and she is recommending he see an orthopedic specialist as the xrays show nothing. We all think the injury is in his shoulder primarily. How much can I expect a consultation with this type of vet to cost? I'm sure they will recommend a scan of some sort before doing any surgery, How expensive is it for animals?? (I had one 2 yrs ago and it was close to $1000.00 Does anyone have any experience with this type of injury with their pet and what was the recovery time?? Basically any info or advice you could offer would be great. Thanks Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 30, 2002 Posted May 30, 2002 After a trauma dogs develop arthritis very very fast. At least that is what I have been told and I also read about it. My dog had a tear in her knee. Took weeks until a vet figured out what it was. She had surgery but the arthritis had build up already and she is holding up her leg at times. Check the new message on the bord for older dogs with arthritis. It might help and support the joints of your dog. Quote
