Guest Anonymous Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 I am interested in getting a boxer about 3-6 months old female. I live in Portland,Oregon. My questions: How much to boxers run? Where can I get one? About how much does it cost to get her fixed? How much to crop her tail if it hasn't yet been done yet? and Her first round of shots? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 29, 2002 Posted March 29, 2002 Check out rescue groups in your area. Just go on the web and search for it. Cutting off the tail when not done yet??????? Are you serious? That is done when the dogs are just born. Have you ever felt the thick bone in the tail? You really would want to put the dog through that? Getting a dog fixed? Depends on the vet. $60-100. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 29, 2002 Posted March 29, 2002 Boxers are active dogs. They need to run and play often, but can be calm inside when givin enough exercise. I have a female boxer of 16 months, she is very active, she need to run at least twice a week in the dog park, for around 1 hour. She is doing agility too, 1 hour course and 1 hour practice each week. The rest of the time, she run in the backyard or after my cat! They are very good dogs, they learn easily, they are clean and very friendly. They can be a little hard to train because they can be very excited, and they need to know who is the dominant in the house, particulary when they are teenager. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 30, 2002 Posted March 30, 2002 I think the question, "How much do they run?" refers to cost, not physical exercise. The cost depends on the person selling it. As with almost any breed, if the price is very low ($100-$200), buy with caution. It probably means the puppy is a product of "back yard breeeding" which means anything could be wrong with it, like genetic disorders. Your best bet is to first search you rescue organizations, just type in boxer rescues, or something similar. If you don't see anything you like, try to search for boxer breeders in you area. Make sure, if you're dealing with a breeder, you let them know you want a pet quality puppy unless you pln on showing him/her. There's nothing wrong with pet puppies, it just means the for some reason don't meet the strict breed standards. For example, a black Great Dane with a white chest is a pet puppy, because a show puppy is supposed to be 100% black. Also, make sure the breeder has some kind of guarantee on there puppies. If your's should become ill, will they help you or swap it with a new one or stay tough luck, your problem? Like to other post said, they are supposed to come with there tails docked. The correct term is docked, the ears are cropped. The cost of spaying and getting shots depends on the vet you decide to go to. Call around and ask for prices. The best vet is the one who seems most concerned and helpful. Good luck! I'm getting a Great Dane soon.It took me a few months to find a breeder I was comfortable with. And she lives in another state. But I know it'll be worth it. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 4, 2002 Posted April 4, 2002 Hi There Boxers are great dogs. We have one and absoltely love him. He has such great personality and is very lovable. He also is a great guard dog. His face makes him look scary, but he has a heart of gold. However, this wonderful dog of ours has also cost us $5,000+ in vet bills. Boxers are one of the top three most unhealthy breeds. You need to be extremely carefull in picking your puppy. Make sure he comes from a healthy line of dogs or you are setting yourself up for heartbreak. Its a horrible thing when you must pick between putting your best friend to sleep or a large debt. Dont let this stop you from getting one. They are great dogs, but be very very carefull in the breeder you get it from. Good Luck! Quote
