Black Lab to good home in SW Florida

Hello, everyone!
We have 2 two year old labs, and one of them needs to go. My family and I got them when they were puppies, and they have been wonderful outdoor dogs, but - due to unforseen circumstances - it has become neccessary for them to become indoor dogs. The transition is difficult at best, and my mother can't handle both of them, anymore.

His name is Buddy, and he's a little bit dainty for a lab, but healthy as can be, with all his shots. He's neutered. Buddy has a very sweet disposition, and he gets along well with other dogs, cats and people of any age and size.

However... Yes, the "but..." He is extremely hyper, jumps a lot, and is a bit mouthy, although it's completely harmless, albeit the drool. We're working on housebreaking them, and there have been fewer and fewer accidents, but we still have to keep a close watch on them. They've been outdoors for most of their lives; it's a big change. He has no formal obedience training. He walks pretty good on a leash and choke collar. More often than not, he comes when he's called.

I know there are more bads than goods, but he really is a very sweet dog. He's a perfectly normal Terrible Two who will calm down, sooner or later, and likely turn into a really great dog. He's just too much for us to handle, unfortunately. He's used to having free reign of the yard, and we don't have the knowledge or the self-discipline to turn him into a house dog.

Mom is going to send him to the Humane Society, and yes, he might get adopted there, but I don't know what kind of home he'd be going to, or if his new owners will have the patience neccesary to take care of him. And of course there is the worry that he won't be adopted at all, and have to be put to sleep.

If anybody has the patience to raise a vivacious two year old basically starting from scratch, or if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail me at PurrfectIssue@aol.com or IM (AOL or AIM) at purrfectissue. I'll also check your responses on here, if any. Please put BUDDY in the subject line.

If anybody knows anybody who would be willing to take him in, would you please have them E-mail me? Again, please put BUDDY in the subject line.

If anybody knows of any other services similar to this one that I could post a "for sale" notice, so to speak, would they please e-mail me a link? BUDDY would be fine in the subject line. I use this screen name for school and for work - the mailbox can get a bit cluttered.

Thankyou so very much.

I have to say but your the kind of people that put these dogs in rescues. Why on earth did you have these Labradors if your just going to get rid, and why are they kept outside, these dogs could have had proper training and socialised with your family, friends and other animals, that would have made them good house pets. Especially as you had them both from puppies, there is no excuse for people like you...you either wanted them or you didn't. You carn't just have puppies because they are cute to look at, cuddly and able to do what they want, and then when they get older they are dumped outside because they are too big, start moulting, etc. (because your two darn house proud) I can see that this is one of the reasons your Labradors are outside. *ANIMALS ARE FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR HAVING, THEN GETTING RID OF WHEN YOU GET FED UP* You do realise that getting rid of the Labrador they will pine for each other because they have been together a long time. Is this what you really want or dont your family care. I mean what are you people like..you just make me sick. I have 3 great dogs, they have all been bought up together, being one a 2 year old Bullmastiff and the others medium crosses age 6 and 13, plus 3 cats. I would never dream of putting them outside, they are my children..the house is there's as well has mine (and my home is nice not dirty)
If you really have to get rid of the Labrador, then I suggest both of them, so that at least they have each other, otherwise you are heading for heartbreak with both Labradors.

DONT HAVE ANY MORE DOGS THOUGH.
They will be better off with someone who loves and cares for them for the rest of there life!

I have to say i agree with what you are saying. I am new to this board but it really makes me sick and upset to know that someone can just toss a animal aside. I love my dog, cats, and horse so very much that i couldn't imagin what it would be like without them.
People need to really think before they pick up that cute loveable bundle of fuzz.. They need to think about if this is something they are going to want for the rest of the animals life to do.. We had a horse who was born on our farm and died at 31 on our farm... You can't just give up like that...
