Guest Anonymous Posted November 25, 2001 Posted November 25, 2001 Last night my Fila was shot. A neighbor that does not like dogs shot Volt twice with a .22 hangun. He was shot once in the chest and one in the side while running away. My family is heartbroken. We burried him today. I love and miss him VERY much. The police can not do anything. The only thing the neighbor is legally getting fined for is a ordinance violation of illegally discharging a firearm in the city limits. I can't believe there are NO laws protecting our animals! If anyone knows of any sites that would be of help to me please let me know. I would like to find anything on animal rights..or animal law or info. on how to fight for animal rights. This was just wrong. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 Hello, I am VERY sorry to hear about your dog. That is a TERRIBLE thing to happen. I dont know what state you live in but I know in Texas the only "Leagal" law that I know of is you are allowed to shoot an animal on you property ONLY if you have cattle. I hope you find your answers and some peace. Tami Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 unfortunately, the law is not just enough for many of us, in such a tragedy...when pets.com existed, one of the "extras" offered was a law q & a, and this topic [in different scenarios] was approached several times...mostly, the gist was that the "fine" was all that would happen in such a circumstance...however, there are alot of if's, and's, and but's...whose property neighbor was on, whose property volt was on, whether anyone was trespassing, etc., etc....it was also always noted, that one should determine the laws individual to place of residence, as those laws do vary...the least you may get is damage to "property" [uk! - such an ugly word for a beloved companion, but the one most often used in cases as this, in too many places]...investigation may help you turn up sonmething else, depending where you live...certainly you are not only deeply sorrowful and pained at such a great loss, but also outraged, as many of us are...a consult w/ a legal person [you might acquire no-charge help at a law school, if one is in your vicinity] may present something else to deter this - this - - - - 'don't really know what to call this "human" - and i use the term loosely...if most humans in your area feel as you do, that this is a senseless waste, that maybe it could happen to them, that the "punishment" is way too lenient and not enough of a deterrent, then maybe a petition to your governing board may be of some use...'don't know how, but certainly might help you feel you are doing all you possibly can to get someone undesirable off the street, so-to-speak...spread the word, take a poll, see what other neighbors think...if that's not something you feel you can do, at least spread the word, long and loud, about your lovely volt and his demise at the hands of a NEIGHBOR...those w/children, even if they are w/o canine companions, would likely be your greatest friends in this...who knows when this neighbor will feel like another target practice - and to what end the next time?...oh, yes, bank on that "next" time...pure viciousness doesn't stop, esp. when one gets away with it...please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of beloved volt...crying w/you...............miami347 Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 27, 2001 Posted November 27, 2001 Such an awful thing to happen. I cry with you in your time of greif and sorrow. Last year during deer hunting season there were a few hunters walking by our house (we live in the country) down to drive some deer and when our lab barked and went over to investigate these strangers so close to our property one of them said "bring it on I have a 45" My husband and I were appalled at such a remark. We called the local police department and told them of the incident and they did nothing. How terrible that such evil individuals share the same planet with us. Again - my condolences. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 27, 2001 Posted November 27, 2001 very VERY sorry. i've had dogs hit by BB guns, but never anything serious or fatal. depending on where you live, you could file for discharging a firearm(as you said), property damage(unfortunate term), possibly vet bills, and whatever animal rights laws your area has. there are some animal rights activists/groups that could tell you more from a legal standpoint or you could talk to a lawyer. we're with you all the way. Shannon_C Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 I am very very sorry to hear the sad loss of your dog, its so sad...I feel your pain and i also feel sad that nothing can be done to that evil culprit, laws should be stronger for our animals around the world, i bet god is so appalled of what goes about on this earth, after all he made us all. I know there are strict laws about firing guns at animals in England, where i am from, just wished that many others were to....oh its just darn sickening. Guest Anonymous Posted April 24, 2002 Posted April 24, 2002 I like many others am sorry for your loss but what on earth was your dog doing near enough to your neighbor and enough out of your control that the neighbor felt empowered to shoot your pet? Fences and leashes make for better neighbor relations in my experience. On 2001-11-25 15:22, Stephanie wrote: Last night my Fila was shot. Guest Anonymous Posted April 24, 2002 Posted April 24, 2002 I am American and just moved to Jamaica. If you guys think the laws in the states are bad... there are NO laws here that I can find. People poison dogs here all the time. I had a puppy that was about 3 months old. I just moved in and he got out of my yard. When I came back from work I found out my neighbor had locked her in the trash bin. Thankfully some of the neighborhood children got her out. I asked my neighbor about it and she threatened to poison her next time. Well, I got a chain to make sure she didn't get loose but she got loose last Saturday morning and I haven't seen her sense and there's nothing I can do! This all happened within 2 weeks. I'm very sorry for your loss and know how you feel! If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 25, 2002 Posted April 25, 2002 I am very sorry about your loss and know exactly how you feel. When I was about 8 years old (I am now 16) we moved into one of my moms friends trailers. Everything was fine for about 6 months then some lady moved in next to us. We had about 15 cats 2 dogs and sometimes we watch my sisters Boxer puppy. Well this lady that moved in had a Chow and it started killing our cats. We would look out the window and her sons would call the cats over there so the dog would kill them. Then my sister and mom started arguing with the lady. After that she started poisoning our cats then my sisters puppy. What's The worst thing about it is this lady and her sons when to THREE DIFFERENT CHURCH'S and she works at the vets office here now. So we moved from there to anouther house and we still had a couple cats and our 2 dogs. Well the neighbors at the new house had a German Shephard mix and they would send it after the cats. It killed one of my kittens in the other nieghbors yard. Well they ended up moved and some other people moved in with a Rottweiler and two pittbulls. Well their pittbulls would dig holes under our fence and get in our yard. One of the dogs was in heat and dug anouther hole and went in our yard. Their rottweiler was a male and followed it in our yard and the rottweiler killed my moms male sheltie. My mom went to court over it and the court didn't even care!?! So here we go again moving. I got a Maltese/Papillion mix puppy. When he was about 6 months old my friend and I went walking with him and our neighbor said he would give us $100 to give him the dog so he could kill it because it barked. So we ended up giving him to my moms friend. There used to be this lady up here that would go around leaving notes in peoples mail boxes that if they didnt get rid of their dogs she was going to poison them. Sorry I kept going on and on (like I am now) but I know how it feels to loose an animal and the cops don't even care and act like they can't do anything about it. Well I'll go now I'm sure you are sick of hearing from me. MAJIK7 Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 26, 2002 Posted April 26, 2002 My God!How can people be so mean? Are they sick in their minds or what? I live in Texas and my dog got out two times, and both times the people returned her back safe and sound. The first time she had a collar and tags on. She followed somebody that was walking their dog, and the person called us, and we went to get her back. Then, she got out again, this time without collar and tags cause we just gave her a bath, and this lady later came over, rang our doorbell, and told us our dog was in her backyard with her other dog. We took her home, and on the way back(we were walking), we saw this guy with his kid, and he said my dog had jumped on his wife out of playfulness, but he hadn't done anything involving shooting or poisoning or even hurting her. What is wrong with these crazy anti-dog people? And even when they have their own dog? That is just plain wierd and abnormal. My dog barks at birds, and the neighbors don't do anything.I can't believe some people are so cruel to other people's pets. There should be a law preventing people from abusing them.I've heard of people abusing their own dogs, but never of people abusing other people's dogs that are acting perfectly normal. This world is just not a kind place for pets and their owners, with people killing dogs because they just hate them.Ok.I'm done with all my criticizing and babbling.Sorry, for everybody that has had their pet abused by others.I know how you guys feel, because I used to live in a place where dogs were killed on purpose and then eaten.I knew somebody who lost his dog when the dog got lost, because there is no chance of a black dog surviving in that place, where people pay much more to eat a black dog than any other colored dog.I feel very sick when I see booths selling dog meat, but I have felt much better after hearing that kiiling dogs for meat is not allowed anymore.:smile:OK, bye, no more talking about disgusting and sickening news!!! Guest Anonymous Posted April 26, 2002 Posted April 26, 2002 Please contact your prosecuting attorney and tellhim you want to fill out a complaint. You have a right to do this. Next call the paper and tell them what happened...ask for help. Let us know your city and as much as you feel safe to share....I would be happy to write a letter urging prosecution. Several years ago a scum bag here killed a kitten. We filed charges, caled the media....the guy was convicted. What state are you in.....the penalties for animal cruelty have been raised to felony level in 35 states. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 28, 2002 Posted April 28, 2002 Here I go writting agian. There is so much animal cruelty going on in this town someone needs to go out there and do something about it. Even the vet up here isn't a very good vet. I have heard alot of bad stories about him. Some people moved on this hill by our house and shot my cat and to others for no reason. One time there was a story in the paper here that someone had poisened this ladies three dogs. I know this lady here that doesn't deserve animals. We had given her two puppies and her sons and her poured antifreeze on the ground and poisened them. She has poisened several cats and dogs. She runs over her cats and doesn't even care just goes and gets more and she doesn't even take care of them. This town we live in is so little that no one will do anything about it. This lady that lived across from us had two dogs. One we had givin her and if I would have known it was them I wouldn't of givin him to her. (If that makes any sense). They never fed them and one day they moved and left the dogs there. So the one we gave her came back over to our house and we kept him and her other dog was destroyed. So she came over to our house to get him 2 weeks later and we wouldn't give him back and the animal control said we could keep him. I would have givin him back but she abandoned him, they didn't feed him and they beat him so I wasn't even going to give him back. Well I'll go now agian. Hopefully one day they will do something here about animal cruelty. MAJIK7 Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 29, 2002 Posted May 29, 2002  I would try to video cam or photograph whenever you can the happenings that are going on. Document it, if you have a 911 taped line at least call it in as a matter of record, if your law enforcement or animal control officer takes calls on a taped line. Please check your state laws sometimes there are older ordinances that could be covered under live- stock or animal ownership. Alert your Human Society or animal rights groups through a media campaign, those types of stories usually have a very high profile appeal, suffering always brings out a crowd even for the 4 legged subjects. I know this sounds a little hard but to be blunt you have to sometimes play the angle to get the story out. Good luck many prayers for your Quote
