  1. When my JRT was a puppy and she would get rambunctious and sassy I used to pick her up and hold her really snug against my chest. I'd talk to her softly and say "shhh" and I wouldn't let her go until she calmed down. It usually didn't take more than a minute or so, and it always did the trick. Plus then I got to cuddle with her
  2. My Jack Russell is 4 now and she's always been a puker. The first time she puked was in the car on the way home the day I got her. She's been puking fairly regularly ever since. Lillian, however, never acts sick. She is fine and dandy and all of a sudden she starts smacking her lips. Then she throws up and after that she's fine. Her vet could never find anything wrong with her, and the frequency seemed to change as I changed her food. I mentioned in another post that I feed her Purina Pro Plan for sensitive skin and stomachs and she's only thrown up one time since she started on that food, and that was after being with my parents for a few days and eating their dog's food. It sounds like there might be something more wrong with your mom's JRT. Have they done x-rays to find out if there is an obstruction in his intestines? If everything checks out I would recommend trying different food, the vets have prescription foods that would probably be a good place to start for a dog having the kind of problems your mom's is having. I hope you're able to get it figured out, and don't give up on him!
  3. My 4 year old Jack Russell was recently diagnosed with having a luxating patella resulting in arthritis in her back right leg. The vet gave me several options, including joint supplements and also surgery. I'm skeptical about the joint supplements because I've heard from people who have taken them that they don't help. I'm terrified of surgery for the obvious reasons. I want to do what's best for her. I know her knee causes her some pain and it breaks my heart, but surgery will be painful too and I know it isn't always successful. Does anyone out there have advice on this subject? Has anyone else had their Jack's luxating patella treated and if so how? Is the surgery worth considering? My main concern is that she is only 4 years old and otherwise very healthy. I want her to have many happy, healthy years ahead, and I want her to be as mobile and pain free as she possibly can be for as long as possible. Any suggestions would be much appreciated by both me and Lillian
  4. My dog has had lots of itchy skin and also upset stomach on a regular basis. I recently started her on Purina Pro Plan for Sensitive Skin and Stomachs and she's been much better. Her skin was pretty well under control with an oatmeal shampoo but it's made a world of difference for her stomach.
