AND FINALLY, you express concern over your dog's size. take a closer look at her. how FAR from the breed standard is her conformation and color? you're already questioning the authenticity of her "papers", if you breed litters of pups from a female who greatly departs from the official standrd for the breed, or if she is indeed a mix, the pups are worthless. unless, of course, you fob them off on a pet store or some neighbotrhood idiot who decides to fight them, or breed even more pups. you don't sound as though you know your butt from the broad side of a barn. that being said, i hope you choose not to breed.

a ferret is a small animal, the type of vermin (prey) dogs are prone to chase, kill and eat. if you don't want your dog to snap when a prey animal approaches your dog's food, then feed her at a time and place where the ferret can't get in. if you don't, then don't be surprised when one day your dog kills the ferrets. your dog is calling the shots because she can. be consistent. you can't expect a dog to understand why it's okay for the cat to do something and not for her to do it.

she does it because it works, it's that simple. your dog knows her behavior will elicit from you the response she wants, so she continues it. so? make sure she gets to potty right before bed. then ignore her early rising and whining. within a morning or two at most, she'll stop because she'll discover she can't manipulate you into doing what she wants.

let me clarify my post about the upcoming weekend. i'm dealing with some serious health issues of my own right now, one of which is determining if a mass discovered in my pancreas is malignant. for that reason, and since i don't have my consult appoint until thursday, i truly don't know if i'll be home this weekend or if i'll be recovering from an invasive medical procedure. my intent is not to be vague or deceptive, but the outcome of these health concerns will determine whether or not i'm ABLE to adopt a second dog. this being a public forum, i really didn't want to go into detail about my health issues. elan, you're most welcome to call me at home, email me at my broadband address, or to PM me here. and then, there remains the issue of compatibility between baby and anni. that can't be answered by one brief meeting. i want to be sure, by watching more than one interaction between the two, preferably in more than one environment, that they will be able to co-exist and that i won't come home from work to find one or the other injured. so being able to communicate by telephone would be a tremendous help. when i return from work tonight i'll email the rescue site again with my contact information.

i'm beginning to feel some of the frustration that comes on when dealing with rescues. i've had no word, other than what's been posted here, on baby's condition, personality, medical needs, socialization, or confirmation of when i'll have the chance to see her and see about the interaction between her and my anni. i made my home phone and address and my broadband address available, but the only word so far is what i've read here. the doubts i'm having now come from lack of communication. i'm interested in baby if she's a good fit for my home. but with the sheer numbers of dogs needing homes, it seems senseless to play too long a waiting game.

i hope so. haven't spoken with elan yet, but she'd said she was looking at a widly busy few days. and that today was going to be the first calmer day. let's hope she really does get a chance to relax today, and we'll see what comes up tomorrow!

that picture of duchess makes me think that if she were mine she'd probably lose the use of her legs. she's the kind of bully-looking little heartbreaker that i'd want to just pick up and carry around everywhere i go!

i just heard from elan! and i can't believe we live so close together -- hoping, hoping, hoping we can hook up and anni can meet elan and baby. k, you should love jackiemaya too -- if she hadn't called me over to her PC to look at baby's picture, this never would have started! any way, i'm feeling hopeful. we'll sit tight now and see what works out.

wow! i visited baby's web page, and once again my heart just stopped when i saw her face. her face is the EXACT image of my cissy who had to be put to sleep five years ago. i want so very much to meet her, and have anni meet her, too. what do i have to do to pass along my contact information?

thanks for posting the link, marebear. baby looks like she needs a whole lot of good food, and time to settle down and feel secure. she's a pretty little girl, tho. while it's hard to tell for certain from a photo, she appears to be close in size to my anni. can you find out how well she interacted with the other female after elan got her home?

i'm in minneapolis, minnesota. and i see my co-worker has been in here tonite! hi, and thanks for answering for me. i have a 5-year female rott who just doesn't get enough time with other dogs any more because i work so many hours. i've investigated a couple of possibilities for companions for her, both were males and they nearly drove anni nuts. that said, i'd love a chance to hear more about baby's personality, and perhaps see if everyone could meet?
