They were going to put one in Brandon but they never did. To tell the truth I wish they had. I would take Jesse there but I would never take Beta there, she wasn't socialized with dogs as a pup so she doesn't get along well with most dogs. But as has been said, there is a lot of ignorant and careless people out there who would take their dog-aggressive dogs and accidents would probably happen. :( I used to take our dogs down a very deserted road about a mile from our place for an off-leash run and to explore. They always enjoyed it very much but I've stopped going down there now, here's why: A cougar has been raiding farms around the area(it has even attacked a horse and killed calves) and then I seen a cougar track in the dirt road, it was a couple days old and Beta never caught the scent and I was glad because I didn't want her to go chasing after it. A couple weeks after that I went down there again with a friend and the dogs and we were going down the road and suddenly Beta wasn't with us anymore and was running back to the car. I didn't know why so I called her back and she came back after a second and was out in front again sniffing around like before. Then she suddenly smelt something again and took off back to the car with her tail and head down, obviously scared. :o I thought of the cougar right away and realized if that was what she smelt she was too smart to go messing with a cougar! So I called Jesse back and we got in the car and went home. :o Beta was still scared and wanted to go in the house. We don't go down there anymore, I don't want to meet up with the cougar especially with little Jesse there. :o

I am against cropping and docking. Need we "improve" on nature? If a dog was supposed to have docked ears wouldn't God have sense enough to have them made this way? I know, dogs come from Wolves and such but wolves have intact ears and tails, God didn't see a need for them not to have them and they were given for a purpose. :D I think Dobie's with uncropped ears are very cute and don't look so threatening this way. I'm not for declawing cats either. We've had cats all my life and they haven't clawed up the furniture, they were always taught not to. Cats need their claws for protection, so declawing a cat could very well put it's life in danger.

I got Beta a new dog dish but I haven't got Jesse anything yet. I don't know what to get him. I wanted to get him a bed or a reflective collar so he wouldn't get run over when I take him for walks in the dark, especially with their being snow and him being white. Both the dogs and the cat will get canned dog food for a Christmas dinner. :)

Just tonight I found a lump on Beta's face near the underside of her jawbone. It is like a mole but fairly big. I've never noticed it before. Could this have something to do with her sickness? I'm afraid it could be cancerous! :( Could anyone help, I'm really worried. :( She is only five years old.

My brothers make a few different rooms in the whole thing. They make a tunnel then a room at the end with another tunnel going off of it to another room and so on. The more snow we get the bigger they'll build it! :D I don't think the rooms can fit more than four people in each one, if that. Three of my brothers are working on it and they are all in it at the same time.

My dog, Beta, has started throwing up off and on for the last few days. She hasn't eaten something she wasn't supposed to. Her vomit is mostly dog food or cat food. Yesterday outside though it was yellow fluid. She was eating grass too. Could it be her food? About 2 or 3 weeks ago we switched her to Natural Choice but up till now there hasn't been a problem. Does anyone have an idea what is wrong? Other than throwing up she seems healthy and is active.

Yes, I can see how that would really help that GSD. :) I guess what I really mean is people that don't want to take the time to properlly care for the dog so they just put it on this drug.

What do you think of doggie Prozac or any of the other drugs meant to calm your dog down? Or Prozac for that matter. I don't think it's neccesary.

A prong collar is definetely not good for every dog, especially a four month old Bichon! I knwo someone who has a Border Collie. They use a prong collar because he pulls a lot. I took him for a walk when I was there and he hardly pulled at all but when he did and the prong collar pinched him he shrank back and cowered! Sometimes he whined and once he yipped and snapped at the lead. :o He tail never came up the entire walk, he was obviously too sensitive for this type of collar. I told them but they haven't done anything. I guess its enough for them that the dog doesn't pull, never mind if the dog shrinks and cowers. :( -
My brothers make one every year. They are working on one right now and it just gets bigger and bigger! :D

CHRISTMAS!!wat's on ur list? got any plans?
dogsgalore replied to Holz_Boomer's topic in Everything about dogs
I like Christmas a lot but not as much when I was younger. My three younger brothers are easy to buy for. I got them some remote control cars. Everyone else in my family, Mom and Dad, a younger sister and an older brother are hard to buy for. Pets are very easy to buy for though! :D I want a pair of ice skates and gift certificates for pet stores. Then I can go spend more money on my babies! -
I have the same problem, but not with my Mom. It's my sister! My Mom knows I know more about dogs than she does so she asks me if its alright to feed him certain things, but my sister! "Don't feed them raisins, onions, etc" I say, " They've been eating them all their life and they are still fine!" she argues! "They are still young!" I say. It's exasperating! She disagrees with everything, and I mean everything! Next time I'm going to say," Do I tell you how to play piano?" ( She plays piano very good) Of course she'll say no. Then I'll say," Then don't tell me about dogs!" She's dog-illiterate.

Wow! :o You all have such awesome dogs, and other pets! I've never seen a Ridgie in real life, or a Bulldog either! We also have a cat, Tawny, short for Katonya. She is my Mom's. I have 5 angel fish(my beauties :D) A Betta, Platy, and Guppy fish too. I have a sheep which I raised on a bottle. Her name is Millie. Also two cows raised on a bottle. Charlotte is my Dad's cow, and Juniper is mine. We call her Nipper for short. :D

Does Anyone Have Or Know Where I Can Get A....
dogsgalore replied to Duke_3's topic in Everything about dogs
Where in Canada do you live? I know of a breeder in Forrest, Manitoba. The kennel is called Jalna Kennels. I don't know if she is a responsible breeder or not, you'd have to look into it. :) -
My thoughts exactly Guest. I was shocked when I read about them putting the pups in the fridge! About docking the tails so that the dog won't hurt them is just like saying a man should have his big toe amputated to avoid stubbing it.

  Those poor dogs!! Ok, I can understand some cultures have always eaten dogs but must they be so cruel about it?!! What makes me really mad is the labratory pictures! HOW CAN THEY JUSTIFY DOING WHAT THEY ARE DOING??!! I think it's cruel and sick! I can't get those pictures out of my head and I cry when I think of them.   Something needs to be done. -
Where in Canada do you live? I know of one in Forrest Manitoba called Jalna Kennels. ( I don't know if she is a very responsible breeder, though. You'd have to look into it further.)

What do you think of this page, (of tail docking): http://www.amrottclub.org/dock.htm

German Rottweilers are more stocky and the American ones are taller and not so stocky. But I've never heard of a Canadian one. The man was saying his was a Canadian Rottweiler but he wasn't allowed to show it because it was too big. I thought this sounded kinda corny. (Maybe there isn't such a thing as an American or German, I thought there was, but I could be wrong.)
-
Is there such a thing as a Canadian Rottweiler like there is a German and American Rottweiler? I heard of someone who claims to have one but I've never heard of one before.

My friend's neighbor got a dog from the pound. She was probably a Shepherd/Siberian Husky cross. They named her Wolf because she looked like one, she was very pretty and not a mean bone in her body. She was only about 2 years old. She had been at the pound for three weeks and was way overdue to be put to sleep but she wasn't because she was such a nice dog! :D (The pound had found her wandering around the city with no collar.) Anyway, their neighbors were very nice but simply didn't have time for the dog and she spent a lot of her time tied up except for when my friend walked her a few times a week.( They had built a fence around their yard, but Wolf could get out because the fence had been damaged by some people working next to it.) I don't think Wolf's original owner had ever played with her because she didn't know how to play with a stick or ball or anything. I think she'd been abused to because she yelped and cowered once when my friend touched her scruff, like she was afraid she was going to be hit or something. My friends neighbors realized that it wasn't fair to Wolf to keep her cooped up so they gave her to someone who lived on an acreage. Last I heard she was having the time of her life! She would run into the bush and chase squirrels and come bounding out, tongue lolling, her eyes dancing with joy as she looked at her new owners, then back she would go for more fun! I was very happy to hear it! :D
