We do a lot of things around water and it would be nice to be able to take him with us. He digs and when he is upset or bored he tries to dig out of the yard, so when we leave, he has to stay in a kennel and he doesn't enjoy it. I was just wondering if there was some way to get him used to it so that when we go to the beach or go boating, he can come. Maybe not get into the water, but be comfortable enough around water to go onto a boat or near the water on the beach.

He is fine when he is near the water with certain people (my father and me). but when around other people he becomes nerves and stressed. He is fine when he is in the bathroom with me or in the kitchen when I'm doing dishes, but he won't go in there if someone else is in there. He is 11 years old and we have had him since he was about 3 months old. He didn't start this until he was about 3 years old and we got another dog. I'll try slowly putting water on him, but do you or anyone else know why this suddenly started? My dad would take him down to a nearby pond once or twice a week and one week he was fine and everything went normally, but the next week he wouldn't go in.

My older Labrador/Pointer mix is afraid of water. He hates bathes and wont drink water if people are in the area. Is there any way to cure this?

i don't feed him chocoalte anytime....he only gets it when it falls on the ground and I don't get it before him. I ment that they couldn't digest the milk, kendalyn...I just didn't know how to explain it. Sorry.

My dog didn't like it either, but I put it on him one day and rewarded him. I left it on for the entire day and he didn't seem to notice it as much the next. It's like teaching a dog to like a collar. I put it on my dog for an entire day and after about a week he was used to it.

Hmmm....I have a similar problem. For Web, maybe you can get a retractable or 20+ fot long leash and whenever you take him out, put that leash on him. Let him run until you want him to come back. Call him and when he doesn't come, start pulling him back to you and reward him. Once he comes when called because he knows he is getting a treat, try letting him off leash. That is what I have been doing. Now, for Candy, maybe clicker training isn't the greatest idea. But, if you choose to continue, you should use a command like "gentle" or "calm" and reward her when she calms down...then she will learn that getting the treat intales calming down. Once you have the "calm" (or whatever word you choose to use) down you can start a training session off with this command and inbetween different commands like sit or down, you use this command again. I love mutts too, but I thought I would throw my favorite purebreds out there. I volunteer at a non-kill animal shelter and we have gotten 2 Golden Retrievr/Shar Pei litters in and they are extremely cute and have great personalities. I also like another mix that we have had more than one litter of. German Shepherd/Husky/Eskimo Dog mix. I got to name all of them. They were not at all aggressive. We have had one for 8 months now because people think that it is part wolf. Poor thing. I would adopt her, but my parents are trying to sell our house and we don't know if we would have room for her in the next house.

There is no such thing as a "perfect dog" in my opinion. Nothing is perfect. All dogs and dog breeds have their ups and downs, their pros and cons. The Labrador can easily become overweight, but make great pets. The German Shepherd can become destructiive if not given something to do, but also makes a good family pets and watchdogs. There is no real "perfect" breed of dog, but Labs, GSD, Golden Retrievers, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are my favorite dogs. They all have their pros and cons, but I like the personality of those dogs, plus they are good looking.

OK...my turn. The easiest and the cutest trick I taught Bishop is Wave Bye Bye....everyone I know thinks it is adorable. It was simple...maybe too simple, and he caught on fast. If it sounds strange, it is because I was 8 when I taught him. :D I grabbed his paw and mad his paw wave in the air and would reward him. After about 3 minutes of that he learned that Wave Bye Bye means stick your paw in the air and you get a reward....it is cute.

A how to section is what I was looking for, but couldn't find. I am having a hard time teaching my dog, Bishop, to bow. He is a Lab/Pointer mix, and very smart, but I think it's more a question of me not knowing how to teach him. If you know how to teach a dog this trick or anyother, please post it here. Thanks!

That's why I thought maybe Australian Shepherd. My cousin has an Australian Shepherd/Labrador mix with 2 blue eyes and she looks alot like the dog we are talking about.
