1. Malamum, the ultrasound gun is from here:
Experimental device intended for animal control, routing out rodents, predators from bird feeders, control of unruly dogs, cats even people!! Unit is fully adjustable for maximizing effect on target subjects.
The third item down: http://www.amazing1.com/ultra.htm I'm not sure how well that one works. (The descriptions on that site tends to be WAY overrated to say the least...) There are also some more powerful ones I've read about on other sites. They are for crowd control and are pretty effective. The police in some places are considering using them.
2. I'd buy a WintTV PCI card from CompUSA, and a wireless camera off E-Bay. It should be about $100-$150 total. Install the WinTV card in your computer and connect the wireless camera through it. You can find free webcam software if you search for it on google. If you are using DHCP, you'll need to use a dynamic DNS service like http://www.dyndns.org. Its free to use(at least it was when I signed up).
3. Rosebud, Don't shoot anything!!! AS A LAST RESORT: Before yelling at me, keep in mind that this has NO PERMANANT EFFECTS! A directional high-power ultrasound gun might be pretty effective for this kind of thing. What it does is set up resonating vibrations in the ear. There is no permanant damage, but it is EXTREMELY unpleasant. It works on most animals(including people and dogs). Its a bit like pressure points(although is more powerful). The sound waves trigger sensitive nerves causing temporary pain, nausea, and other unpleasant things. It also interferes with balance, and can cause vomiting and maybe diarreah. In short it gives a worse-than-migraine headache. Most of the tests I've read about have been on people. Its probably about the same for dogs. You would have to be careful to avoid you or your dog getting some of the effect! The gun would also have to be tuned. But if it works, it would be a very effective deterrant. Heh or you could just use it on the owner  (just kidding. Don't!)
4. Soooooo.... If someone breaks into your house and you kill them, you are not liable... (its legal unless they are killed outside your house) If someone breaks into your house and your dog attacks them, you ARE liable???? Earth to State Farm... Earth to State Farm... Come in State Farm...
5. I guess not a St. Bernard, then. The Akita's stubborness is okay though. I was also considering a German Shepherd.

Dog lit on fire

:eek2: :madgo: :madgo: :madgo: WHY???? Why would someone do that??? If that was my dog I'd find out who it was that did it and see to it that the rest of their lives were miserable. I'd tell the story to all their future employers. Does anyone have any other information about this? I really can't believe that would happen. I know cases of serial killers that did stuff like that just for fun, but even they didn't befriend the dogs first. They dehumanize their victims(human or otherwise), NOT seriously befriend them!!! If he was that disturbed, wouldn't someone have noticed before this happened? I just think Occam's Razor says someone else did it, and the police aren't always right. I'd hate to see the real culprit go free. They should investigate the case more thoroughly. If this is true, though, he'll probably be the new Maryland sniper in a few years.
7. Yeah, cable would work too. Actually, its easy as long as you have a static IP address, as long as your ISP hasn't blocked incoming traffic using stateful packet inspection on their routers. You just need a wireless camera, an A/V capture card(some graphics cards have on-board support), and a webcam daemon. Cost: under $200. Possibly also a dynamic DNS service if you're on a DHCP host.
8. There are several options. How is your computer connected to the internet? If you have DSL, it would be VERY easy to do.
9. Hi, we have decided to get a dog, but I'm not sure what breed would be best. We used to have 2 very intelligent golden retreiver/border collie mixes(which we raised from puppies), but we had to give them to someone else when we moved here to Maryland several years ago(the apartments didn't allow dogs  ). We now live in a reasonably large house with a fenced yard. The fence needs some work in places. I'm a senior in high school, so we will have to leave the dog in a kennel for about 4-6 hours a day while I'm gone. However, I will have a lot of free time after school. We are considering some different breeds, primarily an Akita, or maybe a Newfie or a St. Bernard. We will rescue one, instead of getting a puppy. So far, an Akita sounds like the best choice, although they can have some problems like agression, digging, chewing, etc... This will be an indoor dog. It would be nice if they were also a fairly good watch-dog. As I said, they need to be able to be left alone for a few hours a day while I'm gone. I've done research about these breeds, but would like to hear what people's advice/experience with them is.
